Four Reasons to Library
July 25, 2008

If your church has a library, more likely than not it is something of a one-room schoolhouse that serves either multiple uses or no use in particular. The materials collected there are loosely organized, if at all, and the whole thing lacks ownership – it’s not really anybody’s baby. If yours is the exception, you’re probably the beneficiary of an organization like the Church and Synagogue Library Association, or someone like the dedicated people I met this week at the CSLA’s national meeting. In a presentation that Dee Ann Lack and I made there, we identified four motives for this kind of ministry and the implications of each for the library’s design.
